Year 4MM visit Omagh Library.

18th Oct 2024

“A book is a gift you can open again and again”

Garrison Keillor

We had a wonderful visit to our local library today. Julie, the librarian, was very helpful and knowledgeable. She gave us a tour of the library. Julie told us we can borrow up to 9 books for 3 weeks. There are a lot of activities on offer in our local libraries - board games, Lego club, Rhythm and Rhyme plus many more.

Julie showed us how the librarians organise the books. She showed us board books, picture books, easy readers, chapter books, fiction and non-fiction books. We can choose from animal books to princess books to detective books. She explained that the books are organised by the authors surname in alphabetical order. The library is home to lots of books including the famous authors David Williams, Cressida Cowell, Roald Dahl and Oliver Jeffers. We also learned about the Dewy system when we were locating non fiction books. Julie let us explore the dewy class number and she showed us how we can find our favourite non fiction books.

Whilst there are books to use to help us research, Julie also showed us the computers to use if we needed additional research. We can even use the computers to help us on with our Mathletics.

The children were shown how to borrow, request and return library books. Did you know that the library has AR books? Children can borrow and book and complete an AR quiz in school.

Thank you Julie for a lovely morning in our local library.
