Ulster American Folk Park

4th Mar 2025

As part of their WAU theme on the Famine & Emigration in Ireland, P7 visited The Ulster American Folk Park on the 28th of February.

They explored a one-room cabin, typical of the homes of the poorest people at the time. The children also visited a larger farmhouse belonging to a "strong tenant" farmer, where they met Mrs. Mellon, who served them pancakes and gave them a tour of her house.

Following the trail, the children visited the schoolhouse,  the docks and got to experience the coffin ships. Historians, dressed in period-appropriate clothing, spoke to them about life during and after 1845. A great learning experience was had by all.
