We at St. conor's are very proud that Helen Quinn, mother of Julieanne in Year 5, Brendan in Year 2, past pupils Josephine and Matthew and member of the Parent Support Group carried the Olympic torch as it traveled through Northern Ireland. Helen carried the torch in Portadown on June 5 2012. Read Helen's nomination story below.
"Helen is a truly inspirational person. She is always upbeat and happy and no matter what is thrown at her she comes out smiling. Helen is married and has four children, two attend hospital regularly and require monitoring. Helen does not sit at home with her children but instead encourages them to take part in a range of activities. Her childrens` birthday parties are something of a legend in our area with games and fun for all. Helen has her kids parties at home and they get to invite all the kids in their class so no one is left out! She recently was devastated by the news that her younger sister in America had breast cancer and putting all her own needs aside Helen flew to Boston to be with her sister in her time of need. Thankfully her sister is doing well. Recently Helen entered in a relay team for the Belfast marathon and fund raised for her neighbour who had a kidney transplant. She constantly helps out at her local football club and childrens` schools, most recently helping with the school musical. Helen is not the person you see in the paper receiving a trophy but is the person that makes sure the cogs in the wheel are oiled so that others can shine. She will wash kits, make sandwiches, offer lifts, whatever? no task is too big or small. I know Helen through work as a Careers Adviser where she is the same, constantly going above and beyond what is required to help others. I would love to see Helen carry the Torch and give her an opportunity to SHINE!"
