Cross Country Running

4th May 2018

Saint Conor’s Primary School has for the past few years, successfully taken part in the N.I Schools Cross Country League. Today gave the pupils an opportunity to compete against many local primary schools, at the ‘St Mary's Primary School Strabane Cross Country Invitational’ event. The races were held at the playing fields in Holy Cross College, where the children  from P5, 6 and 7  had to race around a relatively flat, but long and testing course.

In the Primary Five Girls' race, Lucy Sheridan was the first home for St. Conors and finished in12th place overall. Close on her heels was Grace Corrigan, who finished in 20th position. There was great running from Lily Connolly and Mary Kate Harper who had their first taste of competitive running and did themselves proud.

In the Primary Five Boys’ race, Nathan O' Hagan ran a superb race to finish high up the field in fourth place, followed closely by James Fyffe in 7th Position and Jake Mc Gaughey in 11th place. Tom Sheridan, Jack Fenton, Conor Keys, Sean O' Donnnell  and Eridas Zakas all ran impressive races.

The Primary Six boys  contested an exciting and high tempo race, with many St.Conor's pupils finishing in the top twenty positions. Daire Breen was first home in fifth place overall. Other top ten placings went to Tiernan Kelly in 6th,Cillian Mc Crory in 8th, Oran Farley in 9th and Tiernan Gray in 10th place. Frankie Monk, Brendan Wawryszuk, Ronan Mc Sorley, Conor Gormley, Ryan Kearney, Patrick Duddy and Eoin Miley all ran good races to complete the course in good times. Turlough Collins was running a fantastic race, but had to withdraw due to injury.

In the Primary Seven Girls' race, Emma Mc Crossan had another fantastic run, finishing strongly in the final two hundred metres to come in second place overall. Well done! Aine O'Reilly finished impressively in fifth place and Aine O' Donnell ran strongly to complete her first competitive race for the school.

In the Primary Seven Boys' race, Fionn Collins ran an outstanding race to finish in first position. Rory Dolan finished in fourth place and Michael Corrigan, in what was an exciting and close run race finished in fifth place overall. Ryan Mc Quaid and Eoin Donnelly had super races and finished in the top twenty positions out of a large field of runners.

Thank you to Chris Mc Guigan and Mrs O’ Hagan for helping prepare and organise the pupils for today’s event.

Congratulations to everyone and keep up the training.
